Patient Care Technician (PCT) Training
Why hospitals hire PCTs
A patient care technician does the nurse aide's bedside work and also draws blood and runs EKGs, which is why hospital units prefer one PCT to three part-timers. Stone Academy's program stacks its three approved programs end to end: the full 104-hour nurse aide curriculum, the 120-hour phlebotomy curriculum and the 110-hour EKG curriculum.
On completion you hold a Certificate of Completion in Patient Care Technician Training and are eligible for the Texas CNA state exam, the NHA Certified Phlebotomy Technician exam and the NHA Certified EKG Technician exam. The NHA PCT exam ($169) is optional on top.

Good to know
How much does it cost in total?
$6,150 in total: $5,100 tuition, $100 registration and $950 for books, supplies, the TB test and the background check. Not included: the Texas CNA exam ($125), the NHA CPT and CET exams ($134 each) and the optional NHA PCT exam ($169).
Can I get help paying?
Yes. Moving Stones, our nonprofit partner, helps qualified students pay for training; check if you qualify on their site before you enroll. The school also offers payment plans.
What do I need to enroll?
A tour and interview with admissions, a current photo ID and your signed Social Security card (or ITIN), and proof of a high school diploma, GED, college transcript or 8th grade. If you cannot show proof of schooling, you take a short reading test (CASAS or TABE) instead. You must be 17 by graduation day; under 18 needs a parent's written permission.
When does the next cohort start?
Four times a year; the 2026 dates are January 26, May 4, August 10 and November 16. Call admissions to confirm seats.
Can I take only one of the three?
Yes. Nurse Aide, Phlebotomy and EKG are each offered on their own. PCT is for people who want all three on one schedule.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, the school offers payment plans; ask admissions for the schedule. A plan must be paid in full before you receive your certificate and sit for the certification exam. A $50 administration fee is kept if you cancel after enrolling.
Does the school help with jobs?
Job placement help is free for every graduate with a Certificate of Completion: employer job fairs, posted openings and referrals through our partner employers. Like every school, we cannot guarantee a job.
