What it takes to become a CNA in Texas
Texas requires 100 clock hours of approved nurse aide training, including 40 hours of supervised clinical practice, before you can sit for the state competency exam. Stone Academy's program is approved for 104 hours by the Texas Workforce Commission and Texas HHSC, with the clinical hours done in a real nursing facility under a licensed nurse.
Pass the state exam and your name goes on the Texas Nurse Aide Registry. Graduates work in hospitals, nursing homes, hospices, home care agencies and staffing agencies across Dallas-Fort Worth.
From first visit to the Registry
- 01Tour and interview
Visit the Race Street campus, meet admissions and bring your ID, Social Security card and proof of schooling (or take the short reading test).
- 02Enroll and pay
Sign the enrollment agreement and pay the $50 registration. Tuition can be paid in full or on a payment plan.
- 03Train: online, lab, clinical
Read and test online, come in for skills labs two or three days a week, then complete 40 clinical hours in a nursing facility.
- 04Sit for the state exam
Take the Texas CNA exam (written and skills). Enrolled students may book our lab to practice first.

Nicole Pollard, LVN
Founder, director and instructor
Nicole Pollard is a Licensed Vocational Nurse with more than thirty years at the bedside and the founder of Stone Academy. She opened the school's first nurse aide class in Stephenville in 2010 and has trained nurse aides, phlebotomists and EKG technicians across Dallas-Fort Worth since.
Her nursing career runs through OB/GYN, geriatrics, home health, medical-surgical units, wound care and IV therapy. She is also the school's test proctor, known for exams that prepare students for the real certification test rather than surprise them.

How much does it cost in total?
$1,550 in total: $1,300 tuition, $50 registration and $200 for books, supplies, the TB test and the background check. Not included: the Texas state exam ($125, or $135 oral) and CPR ($75).
Can I get help paying?
Yes. Moving Stones, our nonprofit partner, helps qualified students pay for training; check if you qualify on their site before you enroll. The school also offers payment plans.
What do I need to enroll?
A tour and interview with admissions, a current photo ID and your signed Social Security card (or ITIN), and proof of a high school diploma, GED, college transcript or 8th grade. If you cannot show proof of schooling, you take a short reading test (CASAS or TABE) instead. You must be 17 by graduation day; under 18 needs a parent's written permission.
Three weeks or five weeks?
Same 104 hours either way. The three-week class meets more days each week; the five-week class suits people who are working. Ask admissions which one starts next.
Where is the clinical?
In a Dallas-Fort Worth nursing facility that partners with the school, with your instructor on site. Forty hours, scheduled within the class term.
Can I pay in installments?
Yes, the school offers payment plans; ask admissions for the schedule. A plan must be paid in full before you receive your certificate and sit for the certification exam. A $50 administration fee is kept if you cancel after enrolling.
Does the school help with jobs?
Job placement help is free for every graduate with a Certificate of Completion: employer job fairs, posted openings and referrals through our partner employers. Like every school, we cannot guarantee a job.
