Why it is required

Health care workers meet victims first

Since 2020 Texas has required health care practitioners who provide direct patient care to complete an approved human trafficking prevention training course before each license renewal (House Bill 2059). The reason is simple: a trafficking victim is far more likely to pass through an emergency room, a clinic or a pharmacy than a police station.

This course teaches the signs for every form of trafficking, the law, and how to respond in a way that is safe for the patient and for you. It was written by clinicians who do this work every week.

What the training covers

One recorded webinar and a short unit on claiming your credit. The webinar moves from what trafficking looks like in Texas to the indicators clinicians see, the legal duties, trauma-informed response and the resources to call.
